Convicted Animal Abuser, Stephen Barry King, Now Operating in Reno, NV

Stephen Barry KingStephen Barry King, convicted in August of 2002 of animal cruelty in the UK is now working as an dog trainer in Reno, NV. This is not a nice guy! Not only does he perpetrate his cruelty upon defenseless animals, but women and children as well.

Here’s some background from Pet-Abuse.com

King’s … problems go back to the summer of 1991, when Janet Kyle Zeider signed her dog up for weekly group training sessions that King offered at the recommendation of her veterinarian. Zeider states that during the 4 sessions King became increasingly agitated and ended up attacking a Burmese Mountain dog puppy.

The dog was screaming and King has both hands on the leash and was jerking the dog hard to the right and left and holding him up in the air. The dog was fighting for his life, biting at the choke chain, trying to get free, Zeider states “she will never forget it”.

After 2 Years, Missing Dog Reunited With Family

BellaIn the wake of Hurricane Wilma 2 years ago in FL, Bella, a black brindle Presa Canario mix, went missing. Initially, accustomed to her wandering their two acre property, they expected her to show up as she usually did.  Then they found she had dug her way out under a fence.  Her family scoured the area and put up posters to no avail. They were heartbroken but eventually gave up.

Now fast forward and bring in Miami Dade Animal Control Officer Lisa Yambrich. Lisa got a call about an ‘animal in distress’ and expected the worse as is normally the case in such a situation. When she arrived she found this large back dog just sitting there as though waiting for her and she looked ‘pretty far gone’

Dogs and Allergies

Any human that has an allergy will tell you how uncomfortable it can be. Imagine how much worse it is for a pet suffering from dog allergies. Your pooch is unable to voice his or her discomfort and is unable to get help. Therefore it is part of your responsibility as an owner to detect dog allergies and administer any treatment necessary as soon as possible.

Dog allergies are much like human allergies in the fact that they are usually passed on genetically from the parents to the offspring. A dog can suffer from a variety of dog allergies. The common ones include food and protein allergies, pollen allergies and skin allergies. All are actually treatable with a variety of means ranging from changing pet food to medication. If you do think your pet has a dog allergy then a visit to the vet can confirm it and recommend a course of action.

Dog Finally Rescued After 24 Days of Abandonment

MinnieDay after day little Minnie, an 8 yr old female Basset Hound, sat waiting. Hungry, thirsty, abandoned till the days numbered 24. She waited for the owners that left her and moved away in mid-March.

Finally, after almost a month, a neighbor called the Humane Society concerned about the dog.

After almost a month?! It took that long for someone to be concerned about this dog who no doubt cried piteously?! Are people really so blind, deaf and stupid that it would take that long for someone, anyone, to realize that something was wrong with a dog pacing and howling in a yard, the house abandoned?

Minnie lost almost half of her acceptable 35 lb body weight! Malnourished, dehydrated, almost a walking skeleton as you can see by the picture to the left.

[Humane Society’s Animal Cruelty investigator, Lil] Blomlie immediately took the dog to a local veterinarian, who administered subcutaneous fluids to provide rapid rehydration. She speculated the dog managed to get some water from rain puddles.

Doris Dog - Miscreant Extraordinarie

Every now and then you hear about a dog that gets into the kind of trouble so often that turns it into a comedy. Came across just one of those dog stories today and all I could do was laugh! It’s so easy to picture!

So thanks Janie McDowell for sharing your Doris Dog with us!

The adventures of Doris Dog

By Janie McDowell
Tuesday, May 29, 2007

It reminded me of the Bumpus’ dogs in the movie “Christmas Story.” The time the neighbor’s dog broke down the back door of the house, dashed into the kitchen, grabbed the baked turkey on the kitchen table and ran out of the front door with it.

Only, instead of turkey at my house, it was a frozen chicken I had put on the drain board to thaw out.

While it was thawing, I got sidetracked reading my e-mail and, when I went back to the kitchen, there was Doris Dog crouching on the floor, the frozen chicken between her paws, giving me and the other eight dogs the evil eye. Slowly, “we” moved in for the attack.

How to Keep your Pooch Smoochable

Most pet parents will attest that their dog is the most kissable. But what do you do if Fido comes in for a smooch and his breath knocks you off your feet? When a pooch is plagued with foul-smelling breath-a condition I call Hounditosis-all paws are down for sweet-smelling exchanges. With 75 percent of pet parents saying that their dog’s health is as important as their own, owners need to be aware of potential repercussions if doggy requests for affection are snubbed because of bad breath.

As a dog owner/activist and editor of Animal Fair magazine, I’ve encountered many dogs-not all sweet smelling. Following are my tried-and-true tips for pet parents that helped groom Lucky into a pucker-up puppy, and can help turn your loyal friend into a smoochable pooch.

Spc Justin Rollins’ Little Hero Dog Home

HeroA little Iraqi Hero is finally home! 6000 Miles, tons of red tape and almost 2 month later, the family of slain paratrooper, Justin Rollins, finally hold Hero, the little puppy he found the last night of his life, in their arms.Rollins & Hero

When I first wrote about it, Hero was barely more than a handful and was still nestling with Sgt. Jason Wheeler, Justin’s friend, who was taking responsibility for her until the wheels could get moving to get her home.

Hero’s circuitous route from Baghdad to the United States went through Bahrain to Dubai to Brussels, Belgium finally arriving Thursday night at Kennedy Hero & BrittneyInternational Airport in New York. After a visit to a vet she was finally off to New Hampshire.

Picture here you see Brittney Murray, Rollins’ fiance, holding the puppy. Rollins had planned to ask Murray to marry him on his next trip home but alas that was not to be.

“It was the last bit of happiness Justin had,” Murray says of Hero, the puppy that connects the family to one of the soldier’s last happy moments.
