I support the efforts of so many who work so hard and diligently to bring relief and help to our beloved canine companions and pets. Today, at the behest of a friend, I’d like to shine a special light on the Animal Rescue Site.

The Animal Rescue Site LogoIf you’ve taken time to look around here, you’ll notice lower down on the right side a question asked if you’ve, “Clicked Today?” That will take you to The Animal Rescue Site where every click will bring food to needy animals.

Yup, just one little click, every day, and you can help feed needy animals! The Animal Rescue Site has a nice bold purple button on their site that says “Fund Food for Animals - Click Here Daily, It’s Free” and every little click provides food for hungry animals through their sponsors.

Today I want to bring to your attention the sad plight of so many companion animals after the recent horrible flooding in the Midwest.

Help the animals suffering in the wake of the Midwest’s devastating June floods.

As the residents of America’s heartland flee rising waters and prepare to face the aftermath of one of the worst inundations in the region’s history, animals face just as much bewilderment and peril as the humans they love, if not more. Animal rescue teams are performing land and water rescues, recovering companion animals who had to be left behind, treating injured animals, running emergency shelters, and reuniting animals with their families.

So please, take a moment today and visit the Animal Rescue Site’s special page HERE, and do what you can. Every little bit makes a difference!

Thanks Steve, for letting me know about this special page!!

Seems there have been more and more puppy mill busts lately and I applaud each and every one of them but lament the fact that they exist at all and the busts even have to take place. The people who run these things are such low forms of life that I cannot even begin to describe. They must have no heart and it’s obvious they’re already sold their soul to the devil to be able to treat innocent and defenseless creatures with such wanton disregard for life!

This latest puppy miller piece of trash is Barry Davis of Eatonton, GA.

Acting on a complaint filed by a neighbor, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Department of Agriculture investigated.

“We inspected the premises and found a number of dogs in very bad condition,” the Sheriff Howard Sills said. “Some of the dogs were in cages that were stacked four high. … This is the first one of these things I’ve been to, and it was pretty graphic. I don’t know how to describe it.”

On top of the cruel conditions in which the dogs, mostly small breed such a dachshunds and poodles, Davis had not renewed his license not were the dogs up to date of their shots.

A total of 172 dogs, many is very poor health, were seized. Putnam County Animal Control shelter’s taken several of the dogs, and the rest were farmed out to animal rescue organizations across the area because of the sheer number of dogs. Some of the dogs that are in the most serious condition are with a Putnam County veterinarian and sadly, some of them will have to be euthanized.

Barry Davis has not yet been charged yet and although Sills declined to specify what charges Davis could be facing, he did say they could include animal cruelty charges, which would be a felony. Davis also faces violations of county ordinances for the license infractions.

Sills said people interested in adopting one of the dogs should contact Putnam County Animal Control at (706) 485-3970.

Dogs being burned in Tulsa

Workers at the Tulsa Animal shelter are worried and want to issue a warning to dog owners as well as find out what pathetic excuse for a human being is deliberately burning dogs in Tulsa.

Since July 4th there have been 4 dogs found with, what vets believe, are caustic acid burns along their back, from neck to tail. The latest victim of this sadistic abuse is a 6 month old boxer puppy.

One of the other dogs didn’t survive its injuries and another, which had been tossed out of a moving truck, its companion that was thrown out as well was hit and killed, is now ready to be adopted into a loving home.

Lee Ann Mitten of Animal Control is urging you to make sure you know the whereabouts of your animals so you can keep them safe.

If you have any information on these cases, call the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office at (918) 596-5704.

Rocco and Natalie Villacis, together again after 5 years and a 850 mile journey What an amazing story and an amazing story! After 5 years and 850 miles, Rocco the beagle is back in the loving arms of Natalie Villacis, all because of a little microchip.

In spring of 2003, the then much smaller Rocco, disappeared from his family’s Queen’s New York home by digging out under a fence.

Natalie Villacis, Rocco’s then 5 year old owner, was heartbroken. The family plastered missing flyers everywhere, called animal shelters and looked for Rocco with no success. Eventually they moved on with their life but little Natalie never forgot about Rocco.

Natalie kept Rocco’s favorite stuffed toy and never stopped wondering “what happened to Rocco, where he went and if someone good found him”.

“Every time I would see a dog on the street , I would say to my mom, ‘Maybe Rocco will come back’,” Natalie said.

“She would say that he probably isn’t going to come back. I would say, ‘I know, but maybe he will’.”

UPDATE - 8/17/08 - Tapia Fired

Yvette Tapia of Albuquerque, MN, who was videotaped by her neighbor as she kicked, dragged, yanked and tossed her adopted puppy in the air was put on paid administrative. Employed as a secretary in the legal department at City Hall, when she went to work on Wednesday, she was asked to leave.Yvette Tapia caught on tape abusing dog

I know that many, if not most of us, who watched the video, believes she should have been summarily fired from her cushy city job but proper steps need to be taken so this is not another case like that of trooper Charles Jones who was fired after he was videotaped abusing his K-9 partner. If you recall a judge recommended that he be reinstated because proper procedure had not been followed. Personally I don’t necessarily agree and feel that abuse speaks for itself but….
