Well, they’re at it again! Hundreds of abused and neglected dogs that have lived their lives in cramped, dirty cages are going on the auction block. Then the highest bidder will take them and continue the cycle of abuse. Back into a cage they will go, used for breeding until they have nothing left to give.
Do you now what goes on behind the closed doors? Watch the video below and look at the terrified, scared and dejected dogs being auctioned off like nothing more than inanimate objects. See the dirty secrets they don’t want you to see. Just because it’s legal doesn’t mean it’s morally right or humane!!

On March 12, 2008, there was a dog auction in Thorp, WI at the Horst Stables. This is not the first auction held there but just another of the many and ongoing dog auction that have been taking place.
A protest was scheduled yet again by Chuck Wegner of Clark County Human Society to help to raise awareness of this event and the horror of dog auctions and puppy mills.
Leon Horst of Horst Stable who organizes these auction complained of the protesters, “they got too much time and money.”
But when asked about the association of dog auctions and puppy mills, Horst told the reported for Gannett Wisconsin Newspapers and refused to answer any more questions.
Auctions supporters, such as Earl Hoffman, chairman of the Clark County Republican Party, defend Horst and the auction saying that they are legal and legitimate. Well, no one is saying that they are not legal per say, the problem is morals and ethics. Are they humane? No!

The protest is ON… please log onto www.NoDogAuction.org for instructions.
We ask you to PLEASE come to this event. We cannot be silent!

OK everybody, just in case you haven’t heard, the puppy millers are having another dog auction in Thorp. It will be held on March 12th. Yes, it’s a Wednesday this time. We think it’s an attempt by them to keep protesters away due to the fact that many of us have to work during the week and it may be difficult to get time off.
Please check out our special dog auction website: www.NoDogAuction. org for all the latest news and updates on the protest too. I can’t stress strongly enough how very important it is that we take a stand against this horrible industry. We will be there with our protest signs and banners to draw the attention of the media and the public to what is going on in Wisconsin. This is the only way to keep the issue on the legislators front burner.
I know it is a difficulty for many of you to be able to attend this peaceful protest but if at all possible I implore each of you to look deep into your very being and see if there is some way you can get off work and join us as we stand up to the millers and protest this auction. You will be among good friends who feel that the way dogs are being treated by the millers and the auction is so wrong on every level that we just have to be there for them.
Check out the website and if you can make it to the protest let us know. Thanks.

Anyone who is familiar with me and this website knows how adamantly I am against puppy mills and am a strong advocate for humane reform. There’s nothing wrong with asking those ‘commercial breeders’ to improve conditions in their kennels so that living, breathing creatures are not living a life of horror and torture from beginning to end. There is money nice about puppy mills! There’s no way to sugar coat the horrors, the inhumane conditions, the filth, the cruelty, the death that take place every day and there is nothing wrong with demanding accountability.
For more about puppy mills, take some time to read The Horrors of Puppy Mills and look at some of the Puppy Mill Videos. That is the truth and reality and what those of us in our fight against puppy mills are trying to change.
Now, let’s look at the other side. It’s scary!
It should come as no surprise that there are many trying in every way possible to thwart the efforts of reform and change because to make the necessary improvements would take the precious green out of their pockets.
This is a long post so get comfy, I can guarantee that every word is well worth reading and will open your eyes to the lies, fabrications and much more that the advocates AGAINST reform are employing.
First an excellent and eye-opening article by Jenny Stephens of North Penn Puppy Mill Watch regarding the major reforms taking place in Pennsylvania right now and what organizations are doing to try to stop them. Gov. Rendell has pledged to make changes and is doing just that but it’s pissing off alot of people and they are very active in fighting him every step of the way. Read on and learn!
A Wolf in Lobbyist’s Clothing
By: Jenny Stephens, North Penn Puppy Mill Watch
A few weeks ago, a guest arrived at the North Penn Puppy Mill Watch rally, an educational function held at The Pavilion shopping center every Saturday in Lansdale, PA. As he made his way through the ranks he was heard to remark that he was going to ’solve all of our problems.’
That man was Michael Glass, National Field Representative for America’s Pet Registry, Inc. and a registered Pennsylvania lobbyist. APRI is a canine dog registry currently competing with a slew of other ‘clubs’ to capture the attention and business of puppy mill operators (and ignorant consumers) in order to capitalize upon the registry fees that tally well into the millions annually. APRI, along with the ACA, CKC and many other money hungry organizations happily accept funds in exchange for fancy canine birth certificates that they indiscriminately issue to any four-legged animal belonging to the Canis familiaris species.

There’s no question that I abhor puppy mills and dogs auction and those who run and participate. Recently I did several articles on dog auctions, one of them Missouri Dog Auctions. I came across some feedback on that article that I wanted to share so that you can get an idea of what a few people are saying.
This comes from KansasCity.com
My goal as a breeder is to provide a safe and loving environment for the pups that God entrusts to our care. Not all breeders are evil people who desire to harm these wonderful creatures as portrayed by The Star’s recent article.
Good breeders get unjustly berated when the media focus all of their attention on the bad breeder. Instead of pointing a finger at the inadequacies of a few, we should applaud the breeders who care enough to go to educational seminars and sell directly to families who want a high-quality pet to cuddle. Many breeders work tirelessly to save the little pup who won’t survive on its own, but no one ever hears about that because it is not “newsworthy.”
Let me assure you, federal and state guidelines are strict and inspections are not scheduled ahead of time. There is no denying there are breeders who need to be shut down. And there are equally crooked politicians who need to stop believing everything the animal-rights groups are alleging. Some of us deserve praise, not criticism. We all need to be judged on our own merits.

A couple of days ago I brought you information about the Buckeye Dog Auction in Ohio and told you that these despicable events are not confined to only Ohio, let’s talk about the dog auction capital of the US, Missouri.
At a recent dog auction that took place in Jacksonville, about 50 miles north of Columbia, more than 250 dogs were put ‘on the block.’ Some sold for as little$12.50, some for as much as hundreds. And some poor dogs almost couldn’t be given away despite the auctioneer’s cries of, “Anybody want that dog for a $10 bill?”
Just imagine walking in and this is the sight that greets you;
The wire fox terrier trembled as she stood at the front of the room.
A woman steadied the dog, stood the animal on her hind legs and awkwardly showed the dog’s belly to the crowd. The dog was pregnant, due at any moment, and wore a collar that identified her as No. 145.
“This dog is going to have pups right away,” the auctioneer said. “Ain’t nothin’ but money in the bank.”
This happens again and again, auction after auction. Scared, trembling, sick dogs passing from one life of hell to another. Dogs stuck in metal cages, hour after hour after hour, often without food or water.

Dog Auctions are yet another hideous side of the puppy mill industry that too few people know about. Dogs that have lived their lives in cages, dragged out, shaking, scared, sick, dumped on an auction block in a noisy barn or building, being sold to the highest bidder only to be stuck in another cage for more years.
This story is about the Buckeye Dog Auctions in Ohio but there others across the country. The video give you a heartbreaking look at exactly what goes on. Read… watch… learn.
This comes from BanOhioDogAuctions.com. Please take a moment to read and learn what there atrocities really are. There’s an Auction scheduled, details below the story.
Since 2004, the Buckeye Dog Auction in Holmes County, OH has grown into anything but run-of-the-mill.
Most breeders who participate in this event are raising large numbers of puppies for profit in mills. For those of you who have never heard of a puppy mill, it’s equivalent to solitary confinement for dogs, with living conditions characterized by overcrowding, filth and lack of food, water, adequate shelter and little to no veterinary care. The picture shown above is one such puppy mill represented at this auction.
Fed and bred. That’s it. No walks. No interaction with humans. No dog treats, toys or a soft blanket. Dogs live in the same 2-by-2 foot wire cage for about eight years until their breeding days are done. Rarely, if ever, will they step foot on grass.
It’s a sad life for man’s best friend. And a business managed by a tremendous amount of corruption and consumer fraud.

A short time ago I did a story on Clark County and how it is basically becoming the Puppy Mill Capitol of Wisconsin. This saddens and angers me for a number of reasons; first, because puppy mills are houses of horror for dogs and secondly, because Wisconsin is my own adopted, beloved home state!
To balance the horrors of puppy mills, there are many organizations working very hard to end the atrocities practiced by these profiteers in cruelty. The Wisconsin Puppy Mill Project is one and another is the Clark County Humane Society. They are working hand in hand to put an end to the dog auctions and inhumane conditions at puppy mills.
Read more to find out the efforts Clark County Humane Society is making, then do your part and sign the petition and let our legislator know that you want the atrocities to end. Support the CCHS and WI Puppy Mill Project!
How CCHS is Involved
|
|
| Wisconsin State Capital in Madison, W |
While it is easy to express our disgust at what is happening at puppy mills and dog auctions, we know that nothing will change unless concerned members of the community step forward. We at CCHS have chosen to do just that. We are working very closely with the Wisconsin Puppy Mill Project, Inc., in efforts to introduce legislation that would allow for inspection of these facilities. Efforts have been made to pass a Pet Facilities Law (PFL) previously, but failed due to the political process. We believe that NOW is the right time for things to change!

I’ve written again and again on the horrors of puppy mills and it makes me beyond angry to find my own state a growing haven for these houses of horror!
The Wisconsin Puppy Mill Project has been working and fighting for eight years to end atrocities like these auctions and various puppy mills around the state. They are also working to improve the standards by the Pet Facilities Law. This law still fall far short of what is desperately needed but you can help moving things in the right direction by signing the petition.
To find out more about puppy mills and what you can do please check out - The Horrors of Puppy Mills and be sure to also see the Wisconsin Puppy Mill Project to see what you can do here! (Wisconsin Puppy Mills and Dog Auctions)
And now animal right activists are saying that Clark County, WI is becoming a haven for a growing number of puppy mills!
The U.S. Humane Society classifies the mills as breeding facilities that produce purebred puppies in large numbers for profit.
