IT’S NOT COOL TO BE CRUEL!
To: America’s major sports leagues
HELP BEST FRIENDS ANIMAL SOCIETY REACH ITS GOAL AGAINST DOG FIGHTING.
Several weeks ago, law enforcement officials uncovered evidence of a dog fighting operation on property owned by Michael Vick, quarterback for the National Football League’s Atlanta Falcons. The investigation continues.
It appears that the violent subculture of dog fighting has permeated the world of professional sports and entertainment. Dog fighting is horrifically cruel for the dogs, but also a dangerous, illegal activity that often involves violence, weapons, illegal gambling and drugs.
We, the undersigned, urge America’s major sports leagues—the National Football League, Major League Baseball, the National Basketball Association, the National Hockey League, and Major League Soccer to take immediate action to help stop participation and support of dog fighting by taking the following actions:
- Announce policies condemning dog fighting as a horrifically cruel, illegal activity that will not be tolerated
- Establish stiff penalties, including fines and suspensions, for any high profile athletes or league employee who associates in any way with dog fighting
- Cooperate fully with investigations of athletes alleged to be involved in dog fighting
- Cooperate with Best Friends and other animal welfare groups to promote ways to eradicate dog fighting

This is such an inhumane fetish, as I can’t call it sport. Please help stop the cruelty. I cannot think that intelligent people would participate in such a horrible thing, but then again, maybe the ones who do just aren’t that intelligent, and are simply thugs!

I find this horribly disturbing! Pro atheletes are advocating this type of cruelty!! It certainly does not say to much for these type of athelets. How would they feel if football removed all the humane rules that are set in place to protect them and turned it into a free for all where death could almost be certain.
STOP THIS INHUMANE TREATMENT OF DOGS!

This is sick, and inhumane. We need to boycot the NFL and all companys that allow this to happen.
The only thing they understand is money. Let’s hit them hard with the only thing thay understand.
The NFL must stand up and make a statement against this sick act of cruel treatment.

I agree, the entire NFL must be held accountable. There is no way this has been unknown for so long and at such high dollar amounts.
If the Falcons don’t fire him soon, and the head honchos at the NFL, don’t step in to do it, they are all guilty and should be charged as such.
This is torture and not “role model” behavior. What an insecure little man.
Nike needs to pull all endorsements and anyone else involved with him, his friends or those *&%& defending his “right to do what he wants”
This is why we need to stop paying uneducated people so much and send a message to kids that throwing a ball is not a talent worthy of all they receive.
Rape, torture, excessive lifestyles…when will it end?

I am so saddened by what he has done to those beautiful dogs. There are various pictures of what he did to those dogs here and there onling, and I cannot imagine ever hurting a dog. They are peoples best friends. I feel so bad. This has been going on since 2003. How? How does this happen. There are not enough years in a lifetime to give him the jail sentence he deserves for what he has done to those dogs. They are so loyal and loving. I cannot believe what he has done.
