For the Pit Bulls

A dear friend of mine who works tirelessly to save and help pit bulls sent this to me and it just broke my heart. Pictured here is her rescued pit bull, Precious Michelle.
For the Pit Bulls
Can you help me? He begs with his soulful brown eyes
There’s nowhere for you to go She says as she cries
Can you save me? She begs with her beautiful face
There’s nowhere left You’re another hopeless case
Can you make room for me? He begs as he stares
I can’t find a place The end of the road glares
We’re fighting the fight as hard as we can
We’re fighting for you But we’re up against the ban
There’s so much suffering, pain and loss
Our hearts are breaking But you’re paying the highest cost
We’re running out of space, we’re running out of time
I can’t hear one more sad story Your death is a crime
Can you help me? He asks as he begs for his life
My heart is bleeding Like I am cut with a knife
We’re trying so hard, but we’re losing the fight
Can you save me? She pleads But I can’t make things right
You’re dumped, starved and beaten, hauled in on a pole
Forgotten and put to death I am no longer whole
Can you save me? He whispers as he fades away
Another piece of me dies There is nothing left to say.

My friend is involved with the Missouri Pitbull Rescue and her heart is broken every day. Like any pitbull rescue, MPR is overwhelmed. With BSL being enacted in new cities every day, with the horrors of dog fighting and with the reputation that pit bulls have so unfaily gotten, there are so many unwanted, thrown away, abused and neglect pitbulls and such a shortage of foster homes and forever homes. There is a shortage of donations and money.
Today pit bulls make up the largest segment of dogs in shelters and also the largest number of dogs that are euthanized everyday. The goal of MPR, like any pit bulls rescue, ‘is to promote responsible Pit Bull ownership, provide breed education, combat pet overpopulation, fight unfair legislation’s, and find qualified homes for sound Pit Bull dogs.‘
Please take a few minute to visit the Missouri Pitbull Rescue website. Look at the beautiful and sweet faces of the dogs, read their stories; some heartbreaking and some with happy endings, learn about the breed, not the stories and misconceptions put forth by the media every day. There is so much to love about them. Please, take just a few minutes out of your day.

Gig, this one’s for you my dear! Never doubt the good you do!

If you appreciate my
work, why don't you buy my dog a bone? :)
It is only through the kind and generous donations of those who care that I can continue my work, raise awareness and be a voice for those who have no voice of their own. You'll also receive a lovely gift as a token of my appreciation

Thank you for putting this out there for others to see. It is a heartwrenching poem, but oh so true. So many people had no clue about this kind of thing until the Michael Vick case. A lot of people still don’t know! I didn’t even know what a pitbull was until we got Precious, and certainly knew nothing about their reputation. It’s a terrible shame that something like this horrific had to happen to open a lot of eyes. And I pray that justice is served, as it has NOT been in the past, allowing more and more crimes to be committed. Thank you again, D. We are applauding you and your website. Gig, yes it is so true and so very heart wrenching but with the help of people like you and wonderful organizations like MPR working so hard and getting the word out, people are learning every day.
And as horrific as the Michael Vick case is, if some good can come of it, then it may bring some solace to the souls of all the innocents who lost their lives for the cruelty of this man’s ’sport.’ If it can open eyes to the terrible plight of wonderful dogs, then at least we can say, with sadness in our hearts, that they have not died completely in vain!
Justice will never be served but at least we can hope that lessons will be learned, if not by him and his vicious cohorts, then by society and law enforcement!
Thanks you so much for sharing the girt of this poem with me so that I could share it with others!
Hugs to you and your sweet girls!

Unfortunately for the pit bulls, their breed has become popular with the Vicks of the world and are trained to kill. The responsibility of owning one that is so loving to humans can be overwhelming as often, they will attack other animsls thanks to the overbreeding of the mean ones. The shelters are full of them due to the fighting, killig other small pets, etc. Yet, so many are beautiful and so loving. If we can get the dogfighting stopped and the over breeding of these beautiful dogs, we still have a chance to save them. Unfortunately, as a retired Humane Ofice, I have been involved in three horrible cases involving pit bulls who were doing what they had been bred to do attack and kill. It was a horrible set of sights that I cannot forget. Other innocent animals being torn apart by pit bull pets that adored their owners but had the instinct to kill inbred in them and were rescued as pups unknowing that they would grow to turn on other animals. Three got loose and tore a horse up but we were able to save it afer high vet bills and weeks of pain. Until these kind of pit bulls are no longer bred or be allowed to fight and bred. the breed is going to have problems and not be allowed in certain cities. I have seen the terror they have wrought on the innocent as they are themselves. It is the irresponsibility of uncaring greedy monsters that breed these animals to kill that have given the breed a bad name by allowing them to be adopted out t the unwary public. Others are just fine and wouldn’t hurt a flea but now, unfortunately most people do not know which ones will become violent. This is so sad for all loving pit bull that do not deserve this.
