Update 12/12/07 - New Animal Warden Appointed and Jaime Glandon reinstated!

This puppy, named Gabby, was at a shelter in Rushville, Indiana. On the Monday, 11/12, she was euthanized by lethal injection.Gabby, alive after being euthanized and 4 days in a freezer

On Friday, 11/16, she was found in the shelter freezer by a worker STILL ALIVE!! She was buried under the bodies of other dogs that had been euthanized and had been there for four days!

Even worse, this is not the first time but the third time something like this has happened recently!

When contacted regarding this and the previous incidences, the current Mayor of the City of Rushville, Robert M. Bridges, ordered Gabby to be euthanized again. He showed no concern and based on information that I have received, just wants this whole thing to go away. (Read the Rushville Republican news below to see the story he’s telling now)

Gabby, euthanized puppy, found alive in the freezer four days later. The shelter worker, Jamie Glandon, who found Gabby in the freezer refused and removed her from the premises. She had her vetted and placed her with a rescue for protection and recuperation.

This same shelter worker is dealing with intimidation and threats over this situation because she didn’t just follow orders, she removed the dog and now this is whole issue becoming public.

There is a petition asking The City of Rushville and the Animal Control to review their procedures and make some changes asGabby, euthanized puppy found alive, four days later in a freezer there are obviously problems.

Please take a moment to sign this petition and also add a note asking that no repercussions are leveled at the shelter worker, Jamie Glandon, who with kindness and compassion, saved this puppy after she already underwent hell.

SIGN THE PETITION

City of Rushville Information

The current major, Robert M. Bridges, will be leaving office in January which no doubt is one of the reasons he has little concern for the situation other than trying to keep it quiet.

He can be reached via email: mayor@cityofrushville.com or telephone at (765) 932-3735.

I will add more information as it come available. I spoke with the source for this story a short time ago and was told that the mayor is now completely denying any knowledge of any of this. There is supposed to be media follow-up in a few days. Also there is the possibility of some animal advocacy groups becoming involved.

Please take a moment to sign the petition! Get the word out on this! Post and repost!! These cruelties against innocent animals cannot be tolerated to continue nor can this be allowed to be swept under the carpet.

It’s sad enough that animals have to lose their lives to euthanization but for it to be performed so carelessly that they much suffer so needlessly is beyond cruel and humane!

And that Jamie Glandon, who stood up for the humane treatment and will possibly be facing further threats and intimidations as well should not be allowed to be tolerated!

PLEASE HELP!! SIGN THE PETITION!! GET THE WORD OUT!!

UPDATE - 11/28/07

I just spent about an hour on the phone with a volunteer at the Rushville Shelter who backs up everything that has been reported.

The volunteer, Linda, who has worked there for three years along with the Jamie (Jamie was a volunteer for 3 years before being hired full time approximately 6 months ago) told me about when Gabby was found. A deceased cat was brought into the shelter to be disposed of and when Jamie took the cat to the freezer, a large freezer walk-in style, she saw Gabby poke her head up. The dog had been tossed in a ‘barrel’ with the bodies of other dogs.

She removed the puppy and informed her administrator and was told to take the puppy to the a vet’s to be euthanized again. Then she appealed to the mayor himself. He told her to take the puppy to a vet’s and he would take of of the bill to euthanize the puppy. She found this unconscionable.

She took the puppy to a Dr. Jackman after bathing and trying to warm her. By the time the vet could see the puppy it was at least two hours later and even then the dog was ill and her legs were swollen and she smelled like ‘death’. At the time, Dr. Jackman was supportive and helpful even giving her some shampoo to help remove the death scent from the puppy.

Now, as the ’shit hits the fan’ it seems he is back-peddling and saying that the dog’s temperature was inconsistent with having been in a freezer (remember that the dog had been bathed and it was at least two hours since the puppy was removed from the freezer) and that the dog had never been administered a lethal injection.

Linda also relayed to me a previous incident which happened, she believes, in August/September. This time is was a border collie (see a comment posted below from the petition regarding the border collie that was euthed three times) that was euthanized. The dog was found the next day in the freezer still alive and euthanized again. It took three injections before this poor dog was properly (well, not properly but at least efficiently enough) euthanized.

She also confirmed that the animals there were euthanized by a cardiac injection rather than the hepatic injection as Dr. Phillips said they were trained to do in his comments.

At the time Jamie spoke with a Dr. Hills (Mills?) who was appalled at the situation.

When the Mayor was informed, he request ‘unofficial’ reports to be filed on this incident and another one as well. Unofficial! What he did do was to deliver to the shelter administrator a scale and stethoscope so that dogs could at least be checked for any heart sounds after euthanization so this wouldn’t happen again.

Considering his actions, it’s kind of difficult for him to deny any knowledge at all now. Oh, and incidentally, both the scale and stethoscope still sit in almost the exact spot where they were placed upon delivery. Makes you wonder how many other dogs suffered this horrendous fate.

And earlier today the chief of police along with two officers impounded Jamie’s computer from the shelter. There was also a closed door meeting with the Mayor and the local newspaper along with some others. No telling hat exactly what went on but it was said to be an ‘ambush’ for Jamie.

Linda also related numerous other incidences at the shelter of neglect and unsanitary conditions. There are photos to back up much of this and paperwork as well.

This is not a witch hunt unless you count what Jamie is now dealing with! The current mayor will be out of office come January along with most if not all his appointees. Jaime has no interest in the administration position which may be opening up at the shelter and nothing at all to gain from going public with this. All she wanted was that these issues be looked into and fixed and now she is facing a hell of her own.

I’ll continue to update you with any new information as I find out more.

UPDATE - 11/29/07 - 9:45 pm

The story just hit major media!! From The Indy News Channel

Whistleblower: 5 Dogs Survived Euthanasia Attempts

Rushville Suspends Shelter Director

Jaime GlandonRUSHVILLE, Ind. — Rushville suspended its animal shelter’s director over allegations that five dogs have survived euthanasia attempts there since August, including a dog that lived despite spending several days in a freezer.

Shelter director Jack Hill’s suspension followed the allegations made by Rushville animal control officer Jamie Glandon, who said she recently found a dog — Gabby — alive in a freezer four days after it was believed to have been euthanized, 6News’ Rick Hightower reported Wednesday.

The shelter’s freezer is where the carcasses of euthanized animals are placed until they can be discarded.

“I went into the freezer to dispose of an animal, and (Gabby) popped her head up out of a barrel,” said Glandon, who added that dead animals were piled around the survivor.

Glandon said orders were given to try to euthanize Gabby (pictured) again, but Glandon refused, taking the dog instead to a veterinarian.

Glandon said four other dogs survived euthanasia attempts since the summer: a border collie in August and three black lab puppies in October.

She said that after 6News talked to her Wednesday, police confiscated her computer at the shelter. She said she believes her job is in jeopardy because she spoke about the failed euthanasia attempts.

Glandon said she wouldn’t reveal where Gabby is, but she hopes to place the dog in a home once it has recovered.

“Gabby is in hiding. She is somewhere where she is safe, and she is recuperating,” Glandon said. “We’re not making her location known to anybody for safety reasons for her.”

Rushville’s local newspaper, the Rushville Republican is also working on a story and I’ll post it here when it’s published.

Rushville Animal Shelter Under Investigation

It would be any animal shelter worker’s worst nightmare.

Imagine going to a walk-in freezer filled with animals that are supposed to be dead after being euthanized and seeing a dog, alive, pop up.

Now, imagine it’s happened twice before.

So begins the saga of an ongoing investigation at the Rushville Animal Shelter, an explosive situation canvassing community, state and cyberspace forums nationwide.

Read the full story HERE. It is a long and detailed accounting.

I have a few comments about the story;

  • Mayor Bridges says that he got on this and admits to being aware of the previous instances but shortly after this came to light, around the 26-27, calls to him elicited the response that he didn’t know anything about it. This is a quote from an email I received written by an animal advocate, dated 11/26

I spoke with the mayor, Bob Bridges, and he claimed not to know what as going on about anything. Didn’t know anything about the dog or he situation.

How could he not know what was going on when he himself told Jamie to take the dog to the vet’s?

  • The comments from Dr. Jackman come as no surprise as I was told yesterday that he was going to say what he did. Hopefully further tests on Gabby will reveal something more conclusive. No surprise either that her temperature was not severely suppressed, it had been several hours and the dog had been bathed since she was removed from the freezer. Her body was also insulated by the bodies of other dogs.
  • Would love to hear something from Jack Hill regarding this whole situation but it looks like he has been suspended and most likely told not to say anything. It seems from some comments that people feel that the blame is being placed on his shoulders but he hasn’t had much if any say on this at all as far as I know. Where does he stand on this. Was he really trained in the proper euthanasia methods and if so, why were they not being used?
  • Personally I take many of the Mayor’s comments with a ‘grain of salt’. Now that this is out in the open and cannot be covered up and swept under the carpet, being a politician, he necessarily needs to take a ‘proactive’ stance and do some serious CYA. Trust me, what he’s saying now and what he was saying are two different things as many people have commented and reported.

As far as Jamie’s motives, she lays them out herself:

“I hope that the shelter changes its policies on euthanization and the treatment of the deceased animals,” she said. “I hope that people realize that animals aren’t trash. A life is a life. I hope that people in Rushville become aware of the problems that the shelter is facing and will step up and help so that stuff like this doesn’t happen again. This is where taxpayer dollars are going. I want people to understand that I have been working very hard at this shelter for almost two years trying to make things better. Had I kept this quiet for the third time, that would basically have been like saying I approve of what’s going on, and that’s not who I am. I’m not here to be political, not trying to cause trouble, not personally out for someone’s job or to go after anyone. I’m protecting the animals, and by keeping quiet I’d be doing more harm than good.”

To be honest, I am not trying to come down on anyone. This situation is reprehensible and needs to be taken care of immediately. It is far past due.

The bottom line here - please remember that the important thing here is the dogs… not the Mayor or Jack Hill or even Jamie Glandon. It’s the dogs, its the animals who are suffering. Stop placing blame, just fix the problem!!

UPDATE 11/30/07

This is the latest update on the Rushville Shelter debacle.

Police and Mayor’s office shut down fundraisers for the Rushville Animal Shelter. There were pictures with Santa scheduled tomorrow to raise funds for the Rushville Animal Shelter. The mayor’s department ordered the police to prevent this fundraiser from happening, claiming it was due to an ongoing investigation at the shelter.

The public was never notified of this change, so they will be showing up for pictures tomorrow at noon.

Shelter assistant, Jamie Glandon, as of today November 30, is on administrative leave, she has been ordered to stay away from anything shelter related unless she is escorted by a uniformed police officer.

There were 7 animals slated to go into rescue, now they are trapped in the shelter as it has ceased operations due to the investigation.

Thanks for the update Linda!

Now ask the question, ‘Whose taking care of the animals at the shelter now that Jack Hill is suspended and Jaime Glandon is on administrative leave?”

The police department!! And I am sure they are qualified to handle all the responsibility inherent in taking care of the animals and the shelter. (Please read a great deal of sarcasm in that comment)

You can also find full media on my website PetLoversTips.com at Justice for Jaime and Gabby. See below - it’s just gotten a little much to add everything here. Thanks!

News Stories and More Information on Jamie Glandon and Gabby.

Since the shelter’s closing, Glandon reports that calls have been received from rescue groups all over the United States, offering to pull every animal that is in the shelter now to keep the police department from having to use their time and energy to care for the animals, but the city is reportedly refusing.

A Note From Jamie

Hello all,
Jamie Glandon here. I justed wanted to say thank you all very much for your concern for Gabby. It means so much to me to know there are people out there who would have done the same thing and will continue to fight the good fight. Your prayers and encouraging e-mails have really kept me going through all of this. Gabby is doing wonderful in her foster home. She is really coming along and learning how to be a puppy. She is being shown love and compassion and I can assure you she is in the hands of wonderful people. Please continue to say a prayer for her as we aren’t out of the woods yet.

With Kindest Regards,

Jamie

UPDATE - 12/6/07

Below is a copy of a letter that Jamie sent to the Police Department stating the fact that she is more than willing to have additional tests done on Gabby under these stipulations.

City Of Rushville Police Department
270 West 15th Street
Rushville In. 46173I’m sending you this letter in regards to Gabby, the German Shepherd/Mastiff mix. Because of the condition in which Gabby was found on 11-16-07 after attempted Euthanasia, Gabby was placed into rescue and a foster home. Her foster mom has been made aware that the Police Department for the City of Rushville would like to have Gabby seen by a veterinarian. Gabby’s foster mom has already had extensive tests run at her personal expense by an independent veterinarian concerning Gabby’s condition, but is willing to have the tests run again.

Gabby’s foster mom is concerned for Gabby’s safety and has asked that the following stipulations be met before consenting to additional tests:

The City of Rushville recognizes in writing that Gabby is not the “property” of the city.
The City of Rushville agrees in conjunction with Gabby’s foster mom that the test be preformed by independent veterinarian outside of Rushville.
Once the tests have been completed, Gabby will return home that day with her foster mom.
Gabby’s foster mom will be present in the room for the entire exam.
If the City would rather utilize the tests already obtained by Gabby’s foster mom, through an outside lab, she would be more than willing to release those lab results to the investigator.

UPDATE - 12/10/07

Jack Hill back at work

Well looks like Jack is back and Jaime’s not!

Apparently, Jack Hill the Head Dog Warden in Rushville has been reinstated! We’ve got eye witnesses that Jack is now working for the City in the Streets Department. But then who needs an eyewitness when a picture say a thousand words. As for Jack, this is essentially a promotion as that is the Department where Jack wished to work.

Meanwhile, there has been no official announcement from the Mayor or the City, Jamie is still on administrative leave.

Jamie went to the shelter today to retrieve some personal belongings. The Mayor happened to be there with two unidentified people, Jamie was refused admittance. She said she could smell the stench of feces and urine as soon as she stepped out of her car.

I hear there are things going on behind the scenes and Jack Hill has had several reports lodged against him as one of our commenters stated and I had previously heard but somehow he’s back at work for the City while Jaime sit languishing and the animals at the shelter suffer more each day.

There have been offers from numerous rescues to take all the animals out of the shelter but the city has refused. So they’re pissed and taking it out on Jaime and a bunch of poor, innocent and defenseless animals. Where’s the justice??

UPDATE - 12/12/07

Mayor Bridges has appointed a new dog warden for the city of Rushville until the end of his term as mayor. The would be none other than Jimmy “we shoot um in the head” Miller. This would be the same man that was dog warden eight years ago in Rushville and was moved to the street department after he was accused of stealing and selling purebred dogs before the owners had a chance to reclaim them, and shooting dogs and cats in their pens. Mr. Miller’s answer to euthanasia!! This information was written in a press release issued today, December 12, 2007, from the Mayor’s office and will be covered in the December 13th edition of the Rushville Republication Newspaper.

Thank you for getting this out. I have signed the petition, forwarded, and given thanks for people like that shelter worker.

This kind of animal mistreatment is obscene and the perpertrators must be proscecuted.

  5. Beau on November 28th, 2007

Is this story true? What is your source? I’m thinking urban legend

  6. Admin on November 28th, 2007

Beau, trust me, no urban legend. Sadly, this kind of this does happen and more often than people think.

You are free to contact the mayor of Rushville although he is telling people he knows nothing about it. I also have the name, email addy and phone number for the shelter worker who found the puppy.

The HS of Indiana has also been in touch with her as well as as least one other, if not more, animal advocacy groups.

And I believe that tomorrow, Thursday, there should be some local media coverage on this. I have no idea what that will say, guess it depends on what they use as their source. I do have the contact name and email at the newspaper as well.

This is very verifiable. I did not post the contact info for the young woman who found the puppy because she is under a great deal of pressure right now.

My source for this has been in contact with the young woman and there is too much backup information for this to be passed off or swept under the carpet which I think quite a number of people would like to see happen.

    If you actually read some of the comments on the petition, you will come across this one, most ‘back-up’ for the story;

    # 2529:
    Nov 27, 2007, TK
This is NOT the first time that this has happened at this shelter!! Gabby was lucky one that made it out. The border collie before her was “euthed” three times by very painful “sticks to the heart” by a hypodermic needle before she gave up her fight for life.

And as you can also see, this shelter also uses the very painful cardiac injection method of lethal injection which in most states is considered ‘inhumane’ to use unless the animal is completely sedated or comatose.

  7. Kelli Byrd on November 28th, 2007

This is horrible! I signed the petition once and I wish I could sign it again and again. These people, in my opinion, have a very small heart and not much compassion. Dogs are beings too that deserve respect!

  8. Cecilia Rivera on November 28th, 2007

This a terrible act. It wasn’t enough that the pup made it out alive, they wanted to have it euthanized again. Thank God for good people like that employee for saving her a second time.

  9. Dr. Fred Philips on November 28th, 2007

As a local veterinarian in Rushville, IN., I find this story totally unbelieveable. If a small child is trapped in a warm refrigerator, they will suffocate in a matter of hours. The euthanasia fluid used by our shelter,is extremely potent and very depressing to the body’s circulatory and respiratory systems. I just cannot believe that an animal could have received an appropriate, or even near appropriate dose, in any manner, and survived for four days in a freezer full of other dogs that did not survive the same treatment. Mayor Bridges has been a pillar of this community and has tried his best to make the Shelter as humane a place as possible. I know that they are looking into this alleged incident, as well as a couple of other recent questionable incidents, that your alledged source is intimately involve with. This is a small community, and this is the first time that I have ever heard of such an incredible occurrence any where in the county. I personnally know your alleged source in Rushville, and until I have an opportunity to talk to her and to see the dog in question, I find it incredible that she would relate such a story. I assume that should this whole incident be found to be bogus, that you will be printing that story also, and offering a profound apology to a very civic minded, and honorable Mayor Bridges. This story just does not play. Any living thing left four days in a freezer will be deceased, whether the freezer is on or not.

  10. Dr. Fred Philips on November 28th, 2007

To my knowledge, the Rushville Animal Shelter does not use a cardiac injection on an awake animal. I personnally trained the previous shelter worker to perform hepatic (liver) injections initially as detailed in the Journal of the American Veterinary Association. He trained the current shelter worker. Once an animal is incapacitated by the drugs, then a cardiac injection may be made to stop the heart. Your source is a relatively new worker and may not know the difference between a cardiac injection and a hepatic injection with her limited knowledge of anatomy. A sad fact about rural America is that our animal shelters do not recieve any thing near top priority, and are in general, under funded.

  11. Admin on November 28th, 2007

Dr. Phillips, I understand your points but this is not the first time something like this has happened and I do not mean just in the Rushville Shelter.

Regarding the euthanasia fluid, I agree if the animal received the appropriate or near appropriate dosage, yes, the animal would have died so this and previous incidences show that the inappropriate or near appropriate dosage was not used.

There is no doubt the injection would have seriously depressed bodily functions combined with the freezer temperature making survival possible.

The source who related this story has spoken with workers from other shelters as well as a vet and has been told that although survival might not be probable, it is possible. Depressed bodily functions combined with the insulation of the bodies of the other animals would have precluded the dog from freezing and depending on the freezer size and insulation, suffocating as well.

As for Mayor Bridges, I do not know the man nor anything about his civic mindedness but it doesn’t say much for a politician who when confronted about an issue that he had been informed about, denies all knowledge of it. Especially after telling the shelter to re-euthanize the dog.

I see no reason why the shelter worker (who BTW, is not my source as you assume) would relate this story if it were untrue. She is dealing with a great deal of grief over this and stands to gain nothing.

The bottom line to this story is that there is a serious problem with euthanasia practices at this shelter, this being not the first but third time that something like this has happened in the past six months. And sadly this happens at other shelters as well.

It’s sad enough that euthanasia exists, but let it be used as humanely as possible.

  12. Dr. Fred Philips on November 28th, 2007

Until we get away from the “anonomous” sources, I sincerely doubt that there have been any of the incidences that you describe here in Rush County. As a veterinarian willing to use my name, I find it completely impropable that this occurred and highly probable that there are underlying reasons for such dubious accusations to be made. I have offered a free exam of the dog if it can be presented to me. I will be able to see if any injections, frostbite, or other trauma occurred. I trust that should all of this come to nothing, that you will post that also.

  13. Debby M on November 28th, 2007

I emailed the local newspaper and one of their reporters is now “getting on it”.

  14. Admin on November 28th, 2007

Dr. Philips, it’s not so much so that my source is anonymous. The shelter worker is already getting pressured from “powers that be,’ I have no wish to place another person in that same position.

The dog has been placed safely in a rescue where she will need to undergo treatment and recuperation. That rescue will not be made public for fear or reprisals.

As for cardiac injections, there is more than one person reporting that this shelter does in fact use cardiac injections regardless of who or how you trained them. As for lack of funding, that I do not doubt. That is a problem that too many shelters across the country face. It’s not only rural America that faces this. Underfunded or not, that is still no excuse for improper procedures and what in the end amounts to little more than animal cruelty.

And Dr. Philips, if you’ve read my site at all, you’ll see that I welcome ‘both sides’ of the story. I am only putting out there information that I received from someone who is trusted to me and has no ‘agenda’ unlike a number of participants in this situation.

    Debby M, thank you!

  15. Caroline on November 28th, 2007

I spoke first hand with a volunteer at this shelter who relayed to me that this has indeed occured in the past.

  17. CloseToTheSituation on November 28th, 2007

First, my comments are annonymous so as to protect the employee of the shelter as I know her well and don’t want to cause her harm.

This has happened three times, I witnessed 2 of the occasions, and was at the shelter about 4 hours after Gabby had been pulled out and I will tell you that her smell was almost identical to that of the cooler.

The Mayor DID NOT purchase the scales. The scales were bought by a volunteer using money raised by having Pet Pictures in the Park. She has the credit card receipts to back this up.

The dog warden DOES use a heart or lung (or, “whatever I can hit”) shot on these animals. He flat refuses to administer the medication IV.

Dr. Philips are you not one of the vets here in town that said you “couldn’t” provide discounted spay/neuter procedures when you were approached by the shelter worker in question in an attempt to set up a low cost spay/neuter program here in town? After all the average cost is over $120 here in town, quite expensive for a city with a Median income of only $30,600 per year.

Dr. Philips are you aware that a rescue group offered to pay to have both Jack and Jamie attend a three day training seminar put on by a national animal control organization to be properly trained on how to put an animal down? Are you aware that Jack said it would be a waste of time and that a heart stick works just fine?

Before you question someone’s motives and their integrity I’d suggest you do some research and get your facts straight. You owe Jamie an apology for your implications that she is not being honest.

  18. Caroline on November 28th, 2007

Jamie is to be commended for saving Gabby. She is a true hero. She is a voice for the voiceless that have suffered for YEARS at that “shelter”. She should be given a medal the ACO should be fired and the mayor……….I suspect he will answer for this in another world.

Puppies dying of hypothermia because there was on a carpet sample and their mothers body to stay warm on!!!!??? I guess the shelter couldn’t afford blankets due to the prior shelter worker that was fired for embezzlement. I wont go into the horror stories that I have heard about this hell on earth you call a shelter. Jamie you just keep up the fight you have the backing of literally tens of thousands of people you have never met.

In conclusion Dr. Philips our rescue uses a wonderful veterinarian here in Va that discounts treatments for every dog brought in by either rescue or low income private citizen perhaps I could put you in contact with him and he could mentor you in compassion.~ Caroline Watembach of Saving Furry Friends

  19. GSD LOVER on November 28th, 2007

    Dr Phillips,
So just how many of these euthanasias have you sat in on to back up your statement? You would stake your name on the line and say that 100% of the time the animals are NOT AWAKE when the euthanasia takes place? SO just what drug is used to put them in a such a state? I am sure there must be files that HAVE to be kept on drugs adminstered in such a manner. Where are those files? Lets make them public and clear up this once and for all.

  20. cc on November 28th, 2007

Thank you to “close to the situation”, you said what I wanted to say.

Thanks Dr Phillips for offering to see Gabby and check her out for “free” but where were you when the shelter staff was trying to see up low cost spay/neuter services? I believe none of the vets in Rushville were willing to assist.

The shelter, if you have been there, is not a pretty site and the hours they are open is not feasible for adoptions - guess Jack does not want to work weekends or evenings when people are out looking to adopt animals.

And by the way - the shelter may be underfunded according to Dr. Phillips, but they sure do have a nice new expensive animal control vehicle that I am sure surpassed their annual budget for vet care.

Such a brutal reminder of how so many humans disregard the value of other life. It is disgraceful. Humanely euthanizing animals is a tragedy unto its own; torturing them during this process is unforgivable and should be punished by law, as it will surely be by God.

There doesnt seem to be alot of positive feedback from the locals here who I assume are in the know. My heart goes out to the animals and animal lovers in this town

Now that this story has reached the local Indianapolis news, I’m sure the uproar will be even greater. Gabby will become the poster child for inhumane treatment of animals at our shelters. Way to go Gabby!

  24. Annette on November 29th, 2007

This is horribly cruel. I hope this story has put a stop to this ever happening again.
Bless the lady who saved Gabby, she is worthy of keeping her job and being a caretaker. All others who are inhumane and support this procedure should look for a job elsewhere…somewhere where it doesn’t require you have a heart.

  25. Susan on November 29th, 2007

I have known the Mayor of Rushville for more than 30 years. Pres. Harry Truman knew what he was talking about when he said “Some men grow with the job,for others just their head swells”!

  27. Melissa on November 29th, 2007

I personally know both of the workers at the shelter and I disagree with what is going on. There are things beig said about the way things are done as far as the “euthanization” practices. Currently it calls for two people to do this. Where is the other person at while the euthanizations are being done? Thats right not there. So maybe she should be taking some of the blame for not doing HER JOB! She was hired to be the assistant for a reason. If she is not checking these animals after they have been given the medicine isn’t she just as responsible. I believe that just like any other medicine there are going to be times when it doesnt work correctly. So why is a man who loves animals being accused of being “cruel”? This situation is unfortunate but why slander someones name when they are both responsible.?

  28. Debby M on November 29th, 2007

Melissa, I don’t care if Jack Hill supposedly “loves animals” or not, the way he is euthanizing the animals supposedly by the heartstick or liver method– it is against the law to not sedate them first.

  29. Caroline on November 29th, 2007

Oh dear you just knew it was bound to happen the spin doctors have arrived.

Melissa, perhaps it was Jamie’s day off, perhaps even thought it “calls for two people” it may never have been done that way, as it seems things have not beeen done properly at that shelter for quite some time. How in the world could you even hope to administer the correct dosage of a drug when you dont know the animals weight??? You can not “eye ball” a dogs weight, muscle weighs more than fat so two identical size dogs may have weighs that are widely different. But I digress, he was in charge, animals suffered whether due to lack of funds, knowledge or just plain heartlessness. To blame Jamie is in my opinion outrageous! How many years did Jack go in and “poop scoop” for free? I know Jamie volunteered at that shelter for approx 3 years, transported dogs to be spayed/neutered on her own personal time, who showed up at town meetings to suggest implementing animal laws? JAMIE!!! Seemes to me jack hasnt done Jack for animals at that shelter~ Caroline

  30. Melissa on November 29th, 2007

Debby M, My point is that it should not just fall on his shoulders when they are both rsponsible for the animals. Not just him! He was trained by someone who was trained by a vet. I think people should get the complete facts before they start slandering someone. Most of the comments on here are not about the dog anymore they are about the person who was “SO CRUEL”. Like I have said previously they are both responsible for what goes on at that shelter and that is the bottom line. It is a sad story but things happen that are not always politicaly correct in atleast one persons eyes.

The story about Gabby is now published in the local Rushville newspaper. Rushville Republican

I just Read the article at http://www.rushvillerepublican.com Jamie Glandon…you are so brave and caring. Please know that we appreciate your love and loyality for animals. Mayor Bob Bridges, Jack Hill and Rob Jackman…what took you so long to respond to the this situation? Mayor Bridges, why did you not take action on Aug. 9th when you were notified of the situation from Jamie? Why did you not take action again on Oct. 25th when the same instance happened again? And Rob Jackman of Jackman’s Animal Clinic, why didn’t you immediately see Gabby when Jamie called. Hours passed. Gabby could have died. And you…Jack Hill, hopefully formerly of the Rushville Shelter, you are a sick, sick individual! You must not have a heart! To do what you did to those animals and not make certain that they were gone before throwing them into a cooler…how sick! You actually prolonged their suffering. These three men should never be allowed to treat or to own a pet. Thank you again, Jamie for being so brave.

  34. CloseToTheSituation on November 29th, 2007

Melissa, since you know them both ask Jack when he does the injections, he’ll tell you its early in the morning before Jamie gets there. If he’s honest with you he’ll tell you that Jamie has offered to assist in the past and he has said “no” because its “too dangerous” and he might stick her with a needle by accident. So, the animals are injected, and placed in the freezer before Jamie even reports for the day, and yet in your opinion she is somehow responsible? I’d also point out that Jack is the Warden, Jamie on the other hand is “just” the Animal Control Officer. Jack is the boss, the buck stops with him.

  35. c isbell on November 29th, 2007

I sincerely hope something is done about this..I have signed the petition and I hope Gabby finds a loving and caring family..she deserves a good life for what she has went through..it seems to me that this place needs to look at the way they “take care” of the animals..the best thing would be to turn all of these places into no kill shelters, but I know that won’t happen, so at least let them go in as much peace as they possibly can!!

  36. cc on November 29th, 2007

    Melissa

Jamie also does not attend the euthanize not only because it is done early in the morning but she attended ont that Jack did and the animal suffered for over 30 minutes before it finally died because Jack did the heart sick without the animal being sedated first and did not do it correctly just stuck the animal wherever, this was too heartbreaking for Jamie to watch ever again (as this would be for I). Jamie did nothing wrong. Jack is the boss, the Mayor is over Jack and neither did anything when this happened the first time or the second time. Jaime had to guts to step up she should not be held responsible. Jack does not love animals or he would have been more involved with the shelter and did more to help it.

  37. kim on November 29th, 2007

To all you people being down on Melissa here, she does in fact know both of them as well as I do being that I have adopted 3 dogs from there 2 before Jamie and 1 since, and I can tell you that Mr.Hill does love animals very much as a matter of fact he trusted Jamie in finding a pet of his a home as the dog could not be around young children, she was getting old…tried biting the babe and mommy who is pregnant again I only hope that she truly sent this doggie where she said and not what I see the articles about PETA down south doing, and for the Mean Butt that said Jack has not done Jack for the shelter he has done the best he could and for your info if ever needed he was there within minutes compared to her hours.

  38. CloseToTheSituation on November 29th, 2007

    Kim-
Help me out with this quote:
“if ever needed he was there within minutes compared to her hours.”

Are we talking about the same two people? Jack is famous for essentially refusing runs, whereas Jamie has never refused a run, even when its a dog they’ve been chasing around the south side of town for 6 months, she still goes, any time day or night. If you can cite specific cases I’d be more than happy to ask her about it, of course if your just blowing smoke trying to protect one of the town’s good-ole-boys then you best apologize for your slanderous comments, you do realize that libel is a crime don’t you?

  39. on looker on November 29th, 2007

    Kim

If he trusted Jamie so much to find his family pet a new home, then shouldn’t we trust and believe her with this situation? Sounds like Jack had a lot of trust and faith in Jamie.

Just because you adopted 3 dogs from there does not mean you “know” the person. I adopted a cat from there, but does not mean that I know them. Of course, do we really know someone? Haven’t you seen stories of people murdered and the neighbors interviewed who state that the thought the person was nice and quiet, never knew they could kill someone.

  40. Melissa on November 29th, 2007

Okay you people can say all you want about Jack Hill. You obviously DO NOT know him! As far as him refusing runs huh thats a laugh! Considering he gets woke up all through out the night with phone calls for him to go pick up animals. She is NEVER on call at night unless Jack is out of town. So maybe you should ask you sweet truth telling Jamie about that one. Especially since what am saying is documented at the POLICE DEPARTMENT!!! And as far as his family pet goes yes he trusted her to find “peaches” a home, and the man cried when the dog left! Now if that is someone who has no compassion for animals I don’t know what is! Most of you people who are talking all this crap have no isea what type of man Jack Hill is. You only know what she has said! And so far 2 count them 2 professionals have said that it was impossible for the animal to have been in the freezer for 4 days!

  41. kim on November 30th, 2007

To close to the situation The case you are speaking of I happen to have a scanner and know for a fact that is was just not Jamie that chased that dog on the south end of town Jack and two police officers were also in on that one,and I have heard numerous times Jamie being called for and no response,I have even heard some of the officials say good luck on getting her,FYI,I am not saying that what she done here is bad I commend her for that I am simply stating that Jack has been called some pretty horrible things in here and maybe that was not her intent to cause this but she has and she needs to be responsible for getting outsiders brought into this situation causing slander towards him, that is also a crime. And to onlooker I have known that man since i was a wee-lil one raised up with his kids and granchildren and now great grandchildren, went to church every Sunday with this family so I do believe that Jack is a very good man and would not intentionally hurt or kill any living thing, and I am standing by what I BELIEVE,and nobody can or will teeter that or take that from me.This is a KILL SHELTER until otherwise stated has been forever,he was only doing his job.

  42. CloseToTheSituation on November 30th, 2007

    Melissa-
Jamie is on call most nights, in fact if you listen to radio traffic the dispatchers call for 150 or 152 and then wait. Whoever responds first is the one who takes the run, sometimes it’s Jack, sometimes it’s Jamie. They are BOTH on call through the week, and they switch off weekends. I’ve seen Jamie out and about, with her family and I know for a fact that she normally has her radio with her. In fact I was talking with her at a concert at the amphitheater this summer when she got called out, she left her kids with her mother (who was also there) and went and took the run. I also know that she has left her house in the middle of the night on multiple occasions to take runs, in fact a few weeks ago I heard her get called out at about 2am, neither of them answered on the radio, so I’m assuming the dispatcher called them on their cell phones. I would bet if someone was motivated enough they could get access to the records at the PD that show the animal control call outs and who responded, it would probably show a pretty even split between Jack and Jamie, but hey, you say what you want, don’t worry about if the facts back it or not.
The people who are saying Jack has no compassion/heart are not related to the situation, they are outsiders voicing outrage over what happened, however Jamie has never accused him of being heartless or of saying that he did these things intentionally. Why don’t you look at the formal complaint, it is public record afterall, all she says it that these events happened.

    Kim-
I never said Jamie was the only one chasing that dog, in fact I said “they” not “her.” Please don’t try to put words in my mouth. As far as being called for and no response, she isn’t required to carry her radio 24/7 (although most times you see her she has it) and I’d also point out that she has 4 young kids, and it is possible that she couldn’t answer the radio, that’s why she carries a cell phone that the PD can and does call. I’ll say it again since you seem to be beating this dead horse, Jamie DID NOT involve outside individuals, she told the rescue who took Gabby what had happened so they could properly care for her, where the information went from there is not her responsibility or fault. And just a question, no one denies it’s a kill shelter, however if it was his job to put the animals down, and these FIVE animals were not properly destroyed then don’t you think that in at least those 5 instances he didn’t do his job properly? Intentionally or not, it was not done properly.

  43. on looker on November 30th, 2007

I do not think Jamie called Jack any names, she just reported the facts. Yes, Rushville is a kill shelter as are many shelters, and yes it is a sad fact that animals are still killed due to not being adopted. But the case is about proper procedure not being followed in this puppies case or others that did die. This is about a puppy that was given a heart stick and never verified that it was dead before it went into the freezer. Whether this intentional or not, only Jack knows that, but proper procedure was not followed and that is the issue.

It is great that both Jack and Jamie have some many supporters, but it would be great to see this kind of support for the shelter and volunteers come in to help i.e. clean cages, walk dogs, play with kittens etc.

Remember these animals come from Rushville to begin with, start taking some responsiblity for your animals, spay/neuter, do not get rid of your pet when you get a new boyfriend/girlfriend who does not like your pet, or you move to a place that does not accept animals even though you had yours for years and many more examples then these animals would never make it to the shelter and then issue would not occur.

  44. Debby M on November 30th, 2007

Jack is the one who is doing the euthanasia at this shelter, not Jamie. Jack is doing the HEARTSTICK method - a method where the needle is injected straight into the heart. This method is supposed to be done ONLY after the animal is properly sedated and asleep. This is NOT being done properly as Jack is skipping the sedation altogether. This against the law and is the same thing that a Dr. Baber in Gallatin, TN is guilty of. I hope when the new Mayor takes office in January, that he gives Jamie the job to be head of this shelter.

  49. CloseToTheSituation on December 1st, 2007

The Pet Pictures with Santa is going on as planned. The proceeds will be donated to an animal welfare organization since it can’t eb a benefit for the Shelter. Jamie has been forbidden by the Mayor & the PD to be there. The volunteers are there.

There are about 20 or so animals that are locked inside the shelter, they can’t get out till this “investigation” is over. NO animals will leave the shelter until its over. The seven that Jamie had set up to go out to rescue this morning? Nope, trapped there.

Also, the “independent” vet that they are trying to force the rescue to turn Gabby over to would be the same Doc Phillips who has posted his opinion here. Go re-read his comments and ask yourself, does he sound impartial, or maybe like he has his mind already made up?

Well, I must say that this has been a most productive discussion. (take that very sarcastically) I am extremely disappointed with the administrative management of this site, and the anonomyous personnal attacks that have occurred. So far all you have managed to do is close an Animal Shelter, and divert the discussion away from what has or has not happened.

Please stay tuned to your local channels as I am sure there will be follow up news stories concerning this, soon.

That your bloggers would impune my integrity with no knowledge of me except my right to my opinion that I expressed here, demonstrates the obvious slant of your desired discussions and mind set.

To discuss anything on this site further is a complete waste of time.

However, for those of you concerned about my doing an impartial exam on “Gabby”, I had offered to do that with FOX59 looking over my shoulder. Now we just have to have “Gabby” presented.

As for the care of the animals, it is covered. I personnally spent time at the shelter with my son, the Mayor and a police officer. An employee of mine will be helping out thru the duration of this incident at my cost. If they can hook up with the rescue people, who do not always show up, they will. I did not see or hear from any of you out there. Where are you now that the Shelter needs your help?

Why did I not elect to be part of any low cost spay/neuter….#1 they never came back to me with further details of what they wanted. I didn’t realize that I had turned it down flatly until you told me I did. I thought Jamie found a subsidized Vet in Franklin and that was the end of it. #2 Spay neuter is not the answer when two cats left unspayed/unneutered can produce several thousands within a few years #3 you get what you pay for, to really be low cost corners have to be cut and the animals suffer #4 No one has approached me about donating big bucks like has happened in Franklin and INDY #5 oh what is the point. It isn’t what you want to hear so you will just deride it anyway.

Mayor Bridges is doing the best he can with the situation that has developed. There is not enough time left in his administration to complete the “due process” needed to come to a resolution adn decide what will happen with the shelter staff.

I’m sure your “sources” will continue to feed you slanted info at every opportunity. Just keep watching the News media outlets, they always get it right too, don’t they. (that’s more sarcasism if you couldn’t tell)

Oh, as a final comment, my compassion is just fine. It helps to balance my realism and the science that I practice. You know science right, where you look at the facts before you draw a conclusion, as apposed to deciding what conclusion you wish to have, and then bend, and form the facts to fit.

I’m done with this slanted biased blog. You have help to accomplish the temporary closing of a shelter. Yes there may have been procedures needed changing, but you shut it all down instead of working to fix the problem. BRAVO FOR YOU!!!!

  54. CloseToTheSituation on December 1st, 2007

    Doc Phillips-
You said, “You know science right, where you look at the facts before you draw a conclusion, as apposed to deciding what conclusion you wish to have.”
How do you jive that statement with your earlier statements; 11/28/07 (BEFORE The story was on the Republican, or aired on RTV6) ” I sincerely doubt that there have been any of the incidences that you describe here in Rush County…. I find it completely impropable that this occurred and highly probable that there are underlying reasons for such dubious accusations to be made.” and, from the same day, “I find this story totally unbelieveable”

So Much for reserving judgment until the facts are known huh? You also forgot to tell these nice folks about your very close relationship with Bob Bridges and with Rob Jackman.

Your attempt to blame the closing of the shelter on the people here is laughable. The shelter was closed by one person, Bob Bridges; the same person who tried to stop a fund raiser for the shelter today. By the way, the fund raiser went on anyway, with the proceeds to be donated to an animal welfare group.

You scream bias, and yet attempt to deny your own very obvious bias.

Oh, and you’ve lied to these people, The Rushville PD, specifically Tim Williams, is going to be caring for the animals. Oh, and when Jamie offered to volunteer, and come down with a police officer to ensure that the animals were properly cared for she was told no, again by Bob Bridges.

Put the blame for the closed shelter exactly where it belongs, on the shoulders of the current administration. Thank God we will be done with you and your ilk come January.

Also, thanks for giving your professional opinion that this “investigation” is not adhering to “Due Process” standards, I’m sure Jamie and her attorney will find that useful when they go after the city for the railroad job being done to her.

  55. Admin on December 1st, 2007

    Dr. Phillips,
You want to come here and have your say but you denigrate me that I allow everyone that same courtesy. I ‘listen’ to all sides of the story and whether I agree or disagree, I understand that everyone has their opinion and has the right to express it.

And yes, I do freely admit to being biased. I am on the side of the dog and those that fight with caring and compassion for their welfare.

I did not shut the shelter down, nor did anyone here. That falls squarely on the shoulders of politicos. I know of no reason why the Mayor would feel the need to shut the shelter down during the investigation. Jaime has shown her loyalties lie with the animals… period. IMHO, the fact that she leveled accusations over improper procedures has ticked off the ‘powers that be’ and their response is to make the innocent suffer.

I am pleased to hear that you are personally taking responsibilty for the welfare of the dogs in the shelter and I hope that those that are set up to go to rescue will be able to.

I admit I do not necessarily agree with personal attacks but I too feel anger toward anyone who was in the position to end the situation there and didn’t.

As I said before and I will repeat again, please remember that the important thing here is the dogs… not the Mayor or Jack Hill or even Jamie Glandon. It’s the dogs, its the animals who are suffering. Stop placing blame, just fix the problem!!

  56. Caroline on December 1st, 2007

An impartial exam of gabby……… Please note his first posts they don’t sound to impartial to me. In fact he seems down right convinced that this could not have happened the way Jamie says it did. I see dogs, sadly left outdoor here in VA all winter long (let alone 4 days) who do survive in freezing temps, can the good doctor explain that?

  57. Debby M on December 2nd, 2007

I would not let Gabby near Dr. Phillips for an exam now. Who knows what would happen… I don’t care if he had FOX 59 News looking over his shoulder. I don’t trust that for one second. I just received an email from someone organizing the Rally and the Mayor and Police Dept. are now intimidating/coercing Jamie into telling the wherabouts of Gabby. Please Jamie, don’t tell!

As far as Dr. Phillips reasons above for NOT doing low cost/spay and neuter, I take exception to his #3 reason that you get what you pay for. How can the FACE clinic in Indianapolis do it so cheaply, Doctor? $20.00 for cats either sex and $30 or $40 for dogs depending on the dog’s weight? It seems to me if some of you vets in Rushville would band together along with some corporate donations you could accomplish the same thing. I have taken 2 cats there myself and most of my friends take their pets there to be fixed and it is done no differently than taking them to a vet to be spayed.

  58. on looker on December 2nd, 2007

Hamilton County also has a low cost spay/neuter clinic, mirrored after FACE, they are awesome, I have had one dog spayed and one neutered and numerous cats there and they are all fine and well. Yes, I got what I paid for, great care at a price that I could afford from a caring vet and staff. If we all volunteered a little of our time each week then the animals would be better off.

    Just horrible….

I worked in a kill shelter for 3 years and I have seen some cruel actions taken against animals by the workers there. Dogs tied in bags that were supposedly dead…but still breathing…while waiting for transport to the crematory. Euthanizing many healthy sweet animals for unjustifiable reasons.

Whoever was responsible for euthanizing that puppy, should get in a world of trouble for not making sure that poor soul was “dead” before placing her into a freezer.

I do have one question…how could a puppy stay alive in a freezer for 4 days? It would have froze to death or suffocated. There must be some discrepancy about the time the pup was in the freezer. It just is not possible to survive 4 days in a freezer, let alone buried under other dead animals.

Either way….glad to know she is ok now.

  62. concerned on December 3rd, 2007

    To Melissa…

How can a dog stay alive in sub-freezing temps for weeks outside? Dogs have known how to stay warm of thousands of years. I have worked in Freezers and it would take days for the average human to suffocate. A few reasons would be the age of freezer and and how good the seals are, what temperature the freezer is set. It is possible. And very likely.

  63. Debby M on December 3rd, 2007

Melissa, it was a fairly large freezer, not the type you have at home. It was an old walk-in freezer previously used by a restaurant. That is why it didn’t suffocate, plus it had the bodies of the dead animals surrounding it to help keep it warm.

  64. sheila on December 3rd, 2007

I have not read all the comments before this one and the more I read, the madder I am getting. It doesn’t matter what type of freezer was used. No animal should ever be put in one alive. How many more animals had to suffer before this one. I can not believe that anyone could be this cruel. The person that is responsible for this should never be allowed to work with animals again. And I would hope that there would be charges brought against them. Animals have feelings of fear, pain, love, and even loyalty, maybe not the same way that we do. But they have at least basic feelings. I hope that this is investigated and not just put in a file somewhere.

The final thing that I want to say is YOU DID A WONDERFUL THING JAMIE, YOU GAVE THE ANIMALS A VOICE, AND WAS WILLING TO SPEAK OUT FOR THEM. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, AND GOD BLESS YOU!!!!!!!!!

OK, enough with the politics and bull. Here is what i know. This is first hand personal knowledge of Jamie. Jamie is a young and bright lady. However with that said she has a history of not being truthful. She has proven to many that drugs, alcohol, and other things affect her ability to obtain employment and or keep that employment.

Sure, Mayor Bridges is going out in January, but If you know him and or his past, you will see a great person with a love of animals. As he is leaving office very soon he can only do so much.

As for Dr. Phillips, he a standup guy. This guy has and continues to provide as much support to the entire community. He contributes countless hours in local charitable events as well as money.

Dr. Phillips simply asked to perform bloodwork on this animal. Why refuse? Jamie, are you hiding something?

How can an animal survive in a freezer for 4 days with or without drugs?

I personally believe Jamie is out for the glory and job as dog warden.

Jamie, tell the entire truth and did you really pull the puppy from the freezer? Take it to a vet and have the blood checked for drugs, and have your blood checked for drugs.

i say euthanize the pup. Why let is suffer an ill fate of another animal shelter in six months. I got a 12 gauge in the truck, Call me, i can do it for nothing.

What a complete idiot “deadgabby” go and get a life.

Well done Jamie for rescuing Gabby you are an angel. I really am shocked at the antics of this shelter and have signed the petition.

Does the person performing the deed not check the dogs heart afterwards?

    deadgabby
You are a sicko. Any offers to euthanize this ’so called person’??
If I had the plane fare I would.
May you suffer when you are old.

What jobs has Jamie lost due to drugs or alcohol? I know she left a job back in 04 due to her pregnancy at the time, and then was a stay-at-home mom until she took the job at the shelter.

Gabby is not Jamie’s to make the decisions about, she belongs to the rescue who has taken her in. It is they who decide what vet sees her.

Your attempted character assassination shows that you can’t argue the facts, so instead try to argue the person. Not a very good tactic my friend.

  74. shibadiva on December 4th, 2007

I’d venture that, given his earlier postings, Dr. Phillips is hardly in a position to provide an “independent” assessment.

  75. Kristine Yeager on December 4th, 2007

Jamie did the right thing, what kind of heartless person is the major when this kind of animal cruelty is acceptalbe.
How dare anyone judge Jamie on other unrelated subjects, She obviously has a good heart, drugs and alcohol don’t make you a bad person, just one with vices. And who doesn’t have a few vices? Rocks and glass houses people

  76. Rachel Davies on December 5th, 2007

I am absolutely disgusted at this story and also by the behaviour of the mayor and animal shelter director. There should have been a FULL investigation after this happened the first time and never allowed to happen again. I cannot imagine how distressing and painful it must have been for the puppy. Jamie Glandon seems to be the only person acting kindly and responsibly and ethically in this debacle and if anyone is to blame for the situation it is those incarge.

This blog is absolutly crazy. People are questioning not 1 but 2 vets that say it’s highly unlikely the animal could have survived the freezer. YOu have both vets that offered to exam the pup and Jamie refuses to allow a vet to take blood sample. Sure, maybe the animal shleter has issues, what shelter doesn’t. If you poeple truely cared about these animals then why don’t you get off your lazy a** and adopt one or two or 5. Then you can sit around and badger and degrade people.

Too this day, Dr. Fred and Dr. Rob both hold degrees in animal care and are simply stating the facts.

Jamie may or may not be after a job for the new elected mayor of Rushville. Regardless, Jamie is stretching the truth. I do believe there may have been some type of screwup in the early fall but see this as an attention getter and a ploy to remove the current dog warden and be replaced with what hopes to be Jamie.

Jamie, even your own mother, Debbie stated to a me in person, that she didn’t believe your story. If your mother is suppose to know you best and says the truth is being stretched on your end, what does that tell the rest of the world.

Jamie, do the right thing here. Standup, tell the whole truth, and allow Rushville to get your mess you created under control.

Personally, i would have shoot the dog and make sure it was dead. But as people see it, it’s not the proper way.

What nonsense, if i got a wounded hog in the pen, i don’t suger coat the bullit hitting him in the head i just do it and move on.

People have issues with putting down animals every day, but they are the same people that eat a hamburger, steak, hot dog, or other meats. Where do you thing the meat came from? How do you think that animal died? They sure didn’t give it a needle full of drugs.

Grow up and move on people.

I would love to see criminal charges filed against Jamie for removing the pup against direct orders. As well as theft for removing the puppy from the city of rushville animal shelter and still won’t return the animal.

Heck, if i went to the city and removed any animal, dead or alive, i’d be in handcuffs and getting 3 hots and a cot at the county jail.

Paul Barada Jr, your the prosecutor, this is a simple case of theft from the city of rushville.

We electeed you as prosecutor, step up and do the right thing. Throw Jamie in jail for theft of an animal belonging to the city of rushville, throw jamie in jail for slander against Jack hill, against the mayor, and most of all throw her in jail for just being JAMIE

    Rushville Rocket-

First, I’m glad to see another member of the Rushville community following this story. Second The dog is THE PROPERTY OF THE RESCUE. She was placed with the rescue in accordance with city ordinance #2006-12 passed into law by the city council on June 20, 2006. So, there is no theft.

Second, her mother supports her fully, look at the republican’s site, you’ll see her comment. If Debbie doubts Jamie then why did she miss part of the Fair committee meeting (she sits on that committee)to sit right next to Jamie during the Board of Works Meeting?

If Jamie wanted Jack gone all she had to do was wait till January 1 since he has said multiple times that he won’t work for Merv. If she wanted his job she could have had it when it was offered to her by the incoming administration, instead she said no.

The lab tests performed on Gabby by an independent vet will prove Jamie’s case, and yet the City doesn’t want those lab tests, they want the dog, they want to have a vet that is in their pocket do the tests….. Why?

Criminal charges for removing Gabby? Are you serious? Against what direct orders? The dog was at the shelter for a week after the incident before she was placed into rescue. Theft? Again I’ll refer you to ordinance 2006-12.
Slander is a civil action you ninny, not a criminal charge.

Your last comment, to throw her in jail for just being her shows that you have some other bone to pick with her and makes the whole rest of your comment clear for what it is, a personal attack.

  79. rushville rocket on December 5th, 2007

lol, you have to be kidding me. The mayor ordered the dog to be put down and she ignored his demand. She removed the dog from the shelter as she stated that day. She should have let due process run its course.

As for her job, i think every employee of the shelter should be dismissed or reassigned somewhere else in the city and let fresh hands take care of the mess Jamie has made.

Why not let a local vet euthanize the animals for a small disposal fee?

This would avoid any issues like this in the future.

Maybe Jamie should move back to indy.

Maybe the ordinace is right, but after the fact the mayor made the decision, she ignored it. Even Dr. Rob states the body temp and condition of the dog show no evidence of the pup in a freezer for 4 days.

Come on, at some point people will see the story for what it is. A politcal assasination to the current administration.

Jamie nor Jack deserve this treatment over a dog. It’s just a dog, no different then the mouse people set poison in there homes to kill.

If Jamie truely cared for the animals, then why wait until after the dog was supposely rescued from the barrel of death to ge it to a rescue shelter.

I still say theft of city property is appropriate. Set an example for people like Jamie that yes, may want to help animals, but fabricate stories to gain the attention and or dog warden position.

Don’t think for one minute the warden’s position did not cross her mind. She is only human and as most people, drove by money.

No vet is in the pocket of the city. Dr Fred is an independant vet. He has an office in 2 communities and is highly experienced in his line of work. He attends training every year for this reason.

It’s a simle blood test to determine if there are any toxins in the blood, not a heart transplant. If i remember correctly, didn’t he offer to do this service for free with even a tv camera watching his every move?

I say Jamie is still hiding the whole truth.

Good Luck Mayor Bostic, she created a mess for you to clean up. Sorry the Mayor bridges is leaving office to soon to handle it effectivly. Maybe Jamie can get a job with Honda and be there official lier, i mean spokesperson.

Oh wait, you gotta pass a drug test for employment there.

    Rushville Rocket-
You show your ignorance of the situation yet again. Mayor Bridges did not order the animal to be put down again, he told her to take it to a vet and that he would pay to have it put down. She did take the dog to a vet, as he ordered. She used donated funds to pay Gabby’s vet bills.

Gabby was at the shelter for a full week (work week) after being pulled from the cooler prior to being taken to rescue. The city had plenty of time to have Gabby examined by a vet while she was still their property.

The mess Jamie made? She has cle
