One of the 14 yr old boys who was first charged with aggravated animal cruelty for burning a dog to death on May 15, then charged with another count of aggravated animal cruelty for another dog burning he participated in on May 9, has pleaded guilty to the two charges and was given a sentence of 60 days in a detention center along with 24 months of probation and has to undergo a psychological evaluation.

The boy was sentenced Friday in Bibb County Juvenile Court. He was one of three youths accused of burning two dogs last month in a case that drew demonstrations outside the county courthouse.

The two other boys, who are 14 and 13 years old, have not entered pleas. Their names have not been released because they are in the juvenile court system.

The two cases came to light May 15 after a woman in south Macon discovered what turned out to be a mixed-breed dog burning in the corner of her yard.

The boys also were charged with fatally burning a puppy.Animal rescuers from central Georgia called the case one of the worst examples of animal cruelty in they have ever seen. About three dozen people demonstrated outside the courthouse in late May, when the accused teens made their first court appearance. (News4)

I understand that juveniles tend to receive rather light sentences but I honestly don’t see how 60 days in a detention center and 24 months of probation is really going to teach this boy anything at all. He wantonly and cruely took two lives. It’s ‘children’ like these three that grow up and wound up populating our prisons for much more serious and violent crimes! I’m sorry but the law needs to take these kinds of crimes much more seriously and punish accordingly!

I don’t ever want to run in to this guy…before or after the sixty days. The biggest crime being committed here is not what he did but what the sentence was!!

Right you are Caroline, Something is very wrong with the animal cruelty system. This may have been a little while back, and maybe the boys
are regretting their wrong, but i doubt it. Given only 60 days is a crime into its self. With a lite sentence as that what will the boys think of and do next
