Update on NJ Puppy Broker - Vicki Patterson
Posted on 2008 under Crimes Against Canines, Furbabies in Need of Help, Just Sad :(, News & Updates, Rescues & Adoptions |8 Jul
Well folks, with everyone’s wonderful efforts, we got scammer and NJ puppy broker, Vicki Patterson who went under NJ Collie Rescue and Referral, off Petfinder but she’s back at it. That’s right, she now has another website where she’s selling ‘rescue’ dogs at a discount.
As you may recall, this “rescue” has been operating like your run-of-the-mill pet store. It was confirmed in a conversation with the commercial kennel owner on June 23, 2008 that all or most of the purebred puppies which were listed on her now-defunct NJ Collie Rescue’s PetFinder website (under the name New Jersey Collie Rescue & Referral) were purchased from the MO breeder whose kennel name was superimposed on some of the pictures.
In fact, the breeder stated she was under the impression that Vicki Patterson was a pet shop owner when she purchased the 12-14 week old puppies at prices “far less than the usual advertised prices” of $200 found on the website. Patterson not only demanded cash only for her “special rescue rates” of $500 to $745, she also stated the puppies were “saved from auction” (which the MO breeder confirmed –what we’ve known for years–that young puppies are rarely, if ever, sold at auctions - that most of the dogs found at puppy mill auctions are older, retired breeders).
Here’s the information I got today, this update was sent to me by Mary Shaver-O’conner of BanOhioAuctions and issued by Libby Williams of NJCAPSA;
- To contact Vicki directly - > victoriasvanners@gmail.com
- To file a compliant about Vicki’s listing on HorseTopia.com, click here - > http://horsetopia.horse-for-sale.org/home.cfm/complaints.html
Just a heads-up to all rescues and rescuers who contacted us about Vicki Patterson and NJ Collie Rescue & Referral Vicki Patterson has a new website and is selling puppies under a new name: Purebreed Puppy Rescue. As you recall, Patterson was suspended from PetFinder and apparently had to find another way to sell her puppies, which are now listed at a reduced price of $400!

Rescue Purebred Puppies

Purebreed puppies need rescue too! When a breeder does not sell their puppy to the big brokerage houses they have no other outlet for them. Many of them end up in auction houses. We are here to help prevent this Anyone can buy a pup at the auction house. . .and there are many nice families who do. Then there are the pit bull breeders looking for pit bull bait, the ‘good ole boys’ looking to do a little target practice, the laboratories etc etc. and some get homes where they will live out their lives chained outside in some ones back yard.
We are the interceptor. We intercept them BEFORE they enter the auction floor and transport them to NJ. Flying most of them in at great expense. These puppies are not rejects. . .they are healthy. Been dewormed. UTD on shots. Most are males. . .because it seems the puppy buying population mainly wants females leaving many many male puppies unwanted. Most are older then 7 weeks old.
Yet they are @ 8 to 10 weeks old.
Our adoption fee for these purebreed puppies is $400. that covers the transport to Nj, shots de worming and foster care. Compared to similar puppies our rescue pups adoption fee is very reasonable our current adoptable puppies can be seen here http://www.siteskins.net/purebreedpuppyrescue/ sorry we do not ship. Thank you for trying to help our puppies.

this burns my butt. i went to her website and saw the pic of the little male chihuahua. obviously i’m partial to chi’s. i wonder how many times this poor little guys sugar levels have run amuck and how it’s been treated. grrrrr. dogs arent the only ones who can bite!
i think we should organize a road trip and put this person out of business for good.

What is this a one woman posse to destroy someone?!!
Vicki has been in rescue for over a dozen years. Very much respected and saved countless lives.
Now there appears to be the work of one person riling up others, because they don’t like her?
My biggest complaint being in Rescue is the self-righteous hypocrite rescuers. It’s my way or I’ll lambast you to everyone else and destroy you.
What the hell is wrong with everyone!!!
Put the love for the dogs FIRST.
Working together saves lives.
You want to organize a road trip to verbally and physically threaten Vicki?
I want to know about it, so I can be there waiting for you.
This is totally disgraceful.
Work together - Save lives
OR
You get the hell out of rescue!

This Vicki individual is most likely a scammer. Her website is a sign to that. I mean come on, its so obvious that she’s using animals for her own personal gain. She claims to be a “Rescuer”? Extremely doubtful! She should get a real job!

Yes Vicki is a “Rescuer” and has worked with other rescuers for over a dozen years. Vicki is also an extremely good dog trainer, earning a lot of respect from other rescuers.
There is nothing for Vicki to “gain”, except what all Rescuers gain, the overwhelming heart gripping knowledge of knowing you saved a life.
Vicki is in no need of financial gain - I know that for a fact.

This is very upsetting. Too many posters with too many problems with the *Rescue*. I urge all the posters who have gotten dogs from Vicki Patterson and have had problems to contact the NJ State Attorney General and voice your complaints. Hopefully you have kept all appropriate records, vet bills, emails, etc. for they will ask for them. Enough complaints will prompt an investigation. In addition, since she is accepting cash only, an investigation could entail Tax Fraud as well.

Also, here is a related investigation and conviction. Please google Gina De’Lynn Price. Price was convicted of wire and mail fraud, concealing her income, and filing false income tax returns stemming from her puppy-selling business.

I just want to say thank you for finally putting this person out of business.
Almost four years ago I adopted a black lab/retriever/collie mix from her. After having the puppy for two days we were down in Red Bank Vet Hospital and the puppy was diagosed with Parvo virus. After contacting her several times with no luck, while the puppy was in the hospital with very minimal chance of survival, she was 4 lbs and completely dehydrated, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I contacted the ASPCA in Hunterdon County NJ and sent them to her residence. All the puppies were already gone and she would not let them in the barn where she kept the puppies in horrible living conditions. At the time I believed there was probably close to 50 puppies in different pens. The doctors at Red Bank told me that chances were all the puppies that were in contact with mine, all probably had parvo and Patterson really should contact anyone else who adopted through her. She never got back to me.
I filed a small claims action against NJ Collie and Vikki Patterson for the thousands of dollars incurred by Red Bank Vet Hospital for the almost three weeks my dog spent there. We settled for $500.
The best part of the story is my dog is now 3 years old and a very happy healthy companion. Unfortunately I am sure there were many that were not as lucky as she was. We had the means to help her, most people do not.
Thank you for a job well done.
